Larissa Kovalchuk is an acclaimed soprano and bandura virtuoso whose expressive artistry has captivated audiences across Ukraine, Western Europe, and Australia. Known for her unique fusion of classical voice and Ukrainian bandura, Larissa brings emotional depth, technical brilliance, and cultural storytelling to every performance.
Born into a family of artists and musicians, her musical journey began early. “I sang before I talked,” she recalls. Larissa studied voice, bandura, and conducting at the National Academy of Music – Ukraine’s leading conservatorium and most prestigious music institution – where she quickly established herself as one of the country’s emerging performers. She was awarded Laureate at the 1993 All-Ukrainian Bandura Festival and gained international recognition at the 1994 All the World’s Violins Festival in France, curated by Yehudi Menuhin.
Since relocating to Australia, Larissa has built a strong national profile through both performance and media appearances. She has worked with SBS and ABC Radio and Television, and gained wider public recognition through her participation on Channel 7’s The Voice. Larissa has performed at major venues including the Sydney Opera House, Musica Viva Café Carnivale, Multicultural Festivals, and Australia Day Concerts. She has appeared as a soloist with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra in their Noel! Noel! concert series and performed at the Woodford Folk Festival (2015) and National Folk Festival (2022).
Alongside her performing career, Larissa holds a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Sydney and is a highly experienced voice teacher and vocal coach, currently teaching at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music. She continues to inspire audiences and students alike through performance, teaching, and conducting.
